Kill A Watt EZ Meter Program
Kill A Watt™ EZ plug power meters are designed to easily measure how much electricity is used by plug-in appliances at home or at work. Understanding energy use and related costs can help you save energy and money through simple acts of conservation or efficiency. For example, most home electronics – the second highest energy consumer in a typical home – continue to draw power even when they are “off.” By simply unplugging your appliances and electronics (i.e. toaster, coffee pot, DVD player) when not in use can save you energy and money. Find out how much money you would save in your energy bills by using “smarter” home energy management!
Kill A Watt™ EZ meters are made available through Silicon Valley Energy Watch, a partnership between the City of San José and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).

How to use a Kill A Watt™ EZ Meter?
Simply plug the meter into the wall and then plug your appliance or small electronic item into the meter. You will need to have your PG&E electric bill in order to input basic information about your electricity rates. You will then instantly see how much electricity is being used and the cost associated with the specific appliance or electronic.

Why is it important to calculate your energy use?
According to the U.S. Energy Information Agency, residential and commercial buildings are responsible for 39 percent of the energy consumed nationwide. California imports more electricity than any other State, and our homes use 31 percent of the State’s electricity. Appliances and small electronics consume two thirds of the energy used in U.S. households. As consumer electronics become more common, this number is likely to grow.
